Lookshelf

Books, books and more books! We read a ton of books. Where to put them all? A lookshelf! We go to the library at least once a week usually twice and bring home oodles of books. Without a temporary home for them they are subject to finding a home under the bed, under a pillow, in the car, on a shelf etc. It can get kind of frustrating to try and gather them up before they become over due. Another thing that bothered me was that if the books were put on one of our bookshelves the kids were not able to see the wonderful selection we had. They would just kind of blend in with all the other "regular" books we own. I wanted a way for the kids to be able to see each of the books. I was hoping that if I gave them a cozy space all of their own that it would continue to encourage a love for reading and keep the books in a safe, organized place.

Well, my husband was kind enough (and thankfully handy enough) to whip up some shelves out of some scrap wood. They are very, I mean very simple in design and because they really needed to be so skinny we didn't need that much wood. They were going to be painted so having them made out of scrap didn't matter either. I love recycling so I was very happy with using scraps. I am not finished with this reading space but I thought I would at least show you the lookshelves and hopefully inspire you to create a reading nook of your own or give you an idea on what to do with all those books!

I have six shelves total and they hold up to 50 books comfortably.
Three on one side and three on the side of their space.

They are easy to keep organized. Everybody can see their books and reach them.
It's bright and colorful and it fits perfectly in a space that I wasn't sure what to do with.
Oh, I forgot to mention they are screwed into the wall so that when the kids are grown and no longer need their lookshelves I can (sadly) take them down and hang up something else. But nothing will give us as much joy as these lookshelves.
